In 1999, a group of physicians began to investigate the possibility of creating a specialty hospital to meet the growing cardiac needs of Central California. They envisioned a regional facility devoted to the diagnostic, surgical and medical needs of cardiac and vascular patients. These physicians determined that the best course of action was to form a partnership with Community Medical Centers to develop a specialty hospital.
For Community Medical Centers and the physician partners, the Fresno Heart & Surgical Hospital (formerly the Fresno Heart Hospital) represented an investment to improve cardiovascular care in the community. The Hospital which opened in October 2003, was designed to complement CMC's existing programs. The Fresno Heart & Surgical Hospital launched services at a critical time of population growth and medical needs.
In early 2006, the Fresno Heart & Surgical Hospital embarked upon a course to expand available services to include surgery performed using the emerging gold standard, minimally invasive techniques. Consistent with the hospital's mission to provide exceptional care, the hospital now offers the following services in addition to cardiac and vascular care:
Bariatric (Weight Loss) Surgery |
General Surgery |
The facility brings additional high-quality care and a variety of treatment options to the region's growing population.
In mid-2006, Community Medical Centers became the sole owner of the facility. The hospital operates as a non-profit facility.
